Because too many dumb people can't tell apart an unbiased fact based media and biased garbage, even in history books, much less fictional movies. People think Mexico is all yellow because of the filter they use in Hollywood.
British also like to keep under wraps the amount of colonialism the had and still have. They hated Irish people as recently as 1970s. A bit of a sensitive topic. As a foreigner you should shut up and nod when Irish or British tell you this or that movie is wrong.

The fastest way to get people to not want to take your side is to tell them that they have to shut up and nod at whatever you say.

I was addressing dumb people. Sorry you took it as me talking about you specifically.

The advice to shut up applies to all outiders that presume to know a country's history better than the people living there. Especially annoying if it's some misconception that got populirised through movies and books and is taken as truth.

I misread "colonialism" as "cannibalism" and was very concerned for a minute here.
