Hopefully we've moved on, though tbh it looks as though we're now repeating the mistakes of 90 years ago. But no-one who's studied history or archaeology in any depth at all is under any illusion that any large group of people, except perhaps the Moriori, has been nice. Happy to learn otherwise.
Take a look at animated borders in the continent/s of your choice for the last few thousand years. It's like amoebae fighting for position.
No, I do not think empires are OK. Any of them.
