Oh my god, I can’t believe a Pride and Prejudice adaptation by Netflix isn’t true to the source material! I’m absolutely shocked that they didn’t get the period clothing right, I had such high expectations for this! /s

I get it. I really do. But also: this is exactly why no one likes Austen fans. Instead of wishing for a faithful adaptation or discussing the things you like about Austen, you all whine and shit all over adaptations for which you’re obviously not the target audience. That’s pretty much your individual and collective identities at this point. It makes me so happy knowing this will rack up millions of viewing hours despite the fandom being entitled assholes about it.

IDK. A recent secret about Regency stuff got a hilarious and weird amount of hate, like how dare people even secretly and privately criticize historical accuracy mistakes in a work? Jail for a thousand years!!!

I think it's more about people who dislike that, and not "OP should've phrased it differently".

It’s not private if they post a secret here though. And that secret is exactly the kind of secret as this one. But secrets about what people liked in Regency adaptations don’t get that kind of negative response. It isn’t a matter of phrasing, it’s a matter of topic.

And to be clear because I'm not sure if you were the anon I was responding to - I don't think it's an issue of phrasing. If someone made a secret about how they love Bridgerton even though it's not historically accurate, I think the reactions would be largely positive. But (and this is a trend I've noticed) if you dislike something because it's not historically accurate, nonnies come out of the woodwork to tell you what a snobby little elitist you are and "this is why people hate Jane Austen fans".
