they sensed the emotiones, decided they don't like it and acted accordingly. Troi is not very nice outside of her job anyway. Just the usual level of civility and strong bounaries.

It's true. Every person I've met who claimed to be an empath has used it as an excuse to be a selfish asshole to people.

Now, maybe they did get that way from feeling some sort of social overstimulation. But it doesn't excuse treating others poorly.

LOL. My sister in law is a self-proclaimed Boy Mom and posts "Empaths have it soooooo hard" memes on Facebook all the time. She's not evil, but neither is she particularly sensitive or empathetic to anyone else. She's super sensitive about her own situation and feelings, however, and she thinks that taking offense at everything makes her an "empath". She's totally going to be one of those nightmare MILs one day.

Yes, that's what the "empath" people do, I think. They have a lot of feelings that they don't manage well and blame other people for "making" them have those feelings.

The whole "empath" thing is, at best, a permission structure for people to assume that they know how others are feeling.

I’m cackling because I was just talking to a friend the other day about how “empaths” are always shitty people. They’re honestly the least empathetic people I’ve ever met.

Not surprising. If you have brag about how [insert positive trait here] you are, then chances are you're not at all.

My thought whenever someone does that is "That's not for you to decide."

Insane how one-off gym leader Erika from the early Pokemon anime (she was normal in the games) more accurately predicted what modern real-life "empaths" are actually like. She didn't directly call herself an empath, but she was always going on about "having empathy" and chastising everyone else for not having it.

But I still liked her. Because she was pretty.

I wish less people were like Troi, it would bring my car insurance premiums down, a lot.
