they sensed the emotiones, decided they don't like it and acted accordingly. Troi is not very nice outside of her job anyway. Just the usual level of civility and strong bounaries.

Children's books have been written in first person for years. It's not a new thing. I'm curious if you've looked into child psychology, teaching theories, different ages and levels of reading comprehension, etc. There's actually interesting reasons why a lot of kids books are written the way they are, and how they gradually shift to different perspectives as the age of the audience ages.

Now YA books being first person for most of the time is a new development (as is the genre as a whole) and I could see your argument there. I still wouldn't agree with it, but it would make more sense to me.

I'd also agree that even adult books are a problem. First person used to not be the most common writing perspective, but it seems I can't get away from it nowadays. As someone who is not generally a fan of first person, it's definitely a frustrating change. I do personally think it has to do with a lot of literacy and reading comprehension stats, but I've not really looked into it much.

...isn't "anti-anti" something just "pro" something? Anti-anti just sounds silly.

But also I'm out of the loop, is this referencing a specific event in the gaming world?

Honestly...I rarely read first person. I guess it is less prominent in horror?

Krypto is not how I expected, but he is super cute!!!

It's true. Every person I've met who claimed to be an empath has used it as an excuse to be a selfish asshole to people.

Now, maybe they did get that way from feeling some sort of social overstimulation. But it doesn't excuse treating others poorly.

StoryGraph?

Does anyone use this? I just made an account and am slowly adding the books from my google list! I'm gaelfling if anyone wants to see all the horror I'm always reading. :p

Likely the recent delisting of games with erotic and porn elements on Steam, due to pressure from payment processors.

The major worry is that a precedent is being set that credit card companies, etc, have the right to effectively censor media.

I have zero research or studies to back this up, but I tend to believe the increase of first person POV in adult books are related to low literacy/reading comprehension as well. And maybe a soupçon of readers who are so self-centered that they can't relate to books that ask them to empathize and get invested in another person without inserting themselves into the plot.

I don't think being anti-anti something is necessarily pro that something. It absolutely could be, but it could just be that you are against censorship, no matter what is being censored. Like, you don't want someone being able to limit what other people can see because of how that someone feels about the something, even if you personally couldn't care less about that particular something.

LOL. My sister in law is a self-proclaimed Boy Mom and posts "Empaths have it soooooo hard" memes on Facebook all the time. She's not evil, but neither is she particularly sensitive or empathetic to anyone else. She's super sensitive about her own situation and feelings, however, and she thinks that taking offense at everything makes her an "empath". She's totally going to be one of those nightmare MILs one day.

ayrt - you make a solid point. I just think there has to be a better way than saying anti-anti, I guess.
