...isn't "anti-anti" something just "pro" something? Anti-anti just sounds silly.

But also I'm out of the loop, is this referencing a specific event in the gaming world?

Likely the recent delisting of games with erotic and porn elements on Steam, due to pressure from payment processors.

The major worry is that a precedent is being set that credit card companies, etc, have the right to effectively censor media.

ayrt - ahh, I hadn't heard much about that but a quick look and you're probably right that that's the culprit. Ta!

And itch.io as well.

Oh, I wasn't aware the same thing had happened over there, as well. Not good.

I don't think being anti-anti something is necessarily pro that something. It absolutely could be, but it could just be that you are against censorship, no matter what is being censored. Like, you don't want someone being able to limit what other people can see because of how that someone feels about the something, even if you personally couldn't care less about that particular something.

ayrt - you make a solid point. I just think there has to be a better way than saying anti-anti, I guess.

I think in the context of these specific recent events it makes sense to be "anti-anti". It amounts to "I don't actually care about the porn as such but I am against this bullshit ruining people's livelihoods and privacy".

Yep.

I always thought anti-anti was a ridiculous term to use, you kinda changed my mind on that. Thanks, I feel like I more understand what it's meant to refer to.

(Anonymous) 2025-08-20 05:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, this. Like, there are plenty of things that I personally dislike I don't want to read about or look at! But I believe that people who DO want to read/look at those things should have the right to do so if they want. I'm not pro the stuff, I'm against the idea of it not being allowed to exist.

That'd be anti-censorship though. Saying something like anti-anti-porn is specifically about disagreeing with people who disagree with porn.
I really think that adding more 'anti's is just ridiculously convoluted and essentially loses the point.
