In my experience, streamers who live-comment do noticeably worse at getting item pickups. I figure it must be distracting coming up with what to say next.

Yeah, they're either distracted by their chat or they always have in the back of their minds something along the lines of, "can't be too slow, have to keep this interesting!" so they rush ahead because sticking in one spot too long might lose them viewers.

I get the chatting about random shit if the streamer is doing something monotonous like Pokemon shiny hunting, but that stuff has really made watching modern playthroughs less worth it. That and the player reading out every last line of dialogue and trying to do voices for the characters instead of actually commenting on what is happening, but that started a looong time ago.
