genuine question: could it be possible that the people who say this are just complaining in frustration and not actually expecting other people to do what they want? you know, the way not every single person who's ever said "i wish there was more [THING] fic in [FANDOM]" means "everyone should MAKE IT FOR ME"?

I don't think that counts exactly. But there sure are plenty of people who go "I hate this or that community" or "I hate this or that activity group" or "the mods of one place or another are the worst" then if asked why they don't go somewhere else, they cry "there's nowhere else to go!"

When asked why they don't start their own though, ofc there's a laundry list of reasons why it can't possibly be them that does the change they want to see.

AYRT (belatedly, so you probably won't see this)

i'm precisely the kind of person you're talking about and it's just not that easy. i dislike a bunch of fan subgroups in my fandom (those who are only interested in pwp with shallow characterization, those who reduce all characters and ships to one-dimensional fanon ideas, those who adore the tropes i really, really hate, those who think all critique of the source material means you're a nasty hater and should shut up, etc) and it's very difficult to find even just one person who doesn't fit at least one of them. and even if i wanted to try, how would i even phrase what people i want to talk to without sounding like a total controlling loser? yeah, it's impossible lol. therefore, bitching is all i have left 😔

Yup. I also someone who made fandom groups and organised things. But I still want to bitch and I usually do it to my friends or, you know, fandom secrets
