Oh no, that's awful. I'm so, so sorry for you and your friend and her family.

Having lost a parent in the past few years, just having people be there and expressing sympathy is so helpful. Even if you don't know what to say or do, the fact that you are there is great. Just take your cues from your friend. And just sit there with her, be there with her.
