Is there a character in a TV show that you wish had more screen time?

Cobb Vanth on the Mandalorian should have had more episodes!

Hey! I just went back to rewatch his episodes after seeing Timothy Olyphant in Alien: Earth, where I’m also hoping for a lot more of his character, Kirsh.

But there are really so many. Lots of favourite side characters like Leonard Snart in the Arrowverse shows, Tim and Rachel in Justified, Sidney Freedman in MASH…

I suppose like a hot sauce the character was best appreciated in small doses, but I always enjoyed Colonel Flagg in MASH.

I wish Jonathan had survived over Andrew. Way more interesting and sympathetic. I wanted more of him.

I wish Bill had gotten another season on Doctor Who. Same with Donna, but at least she came back.

Joe and Ellen on SPN. Wish we'd gotten more screen time for them. And more time in general.

Nog and Jake on Deep Space Nine. Also Dukat and Dumar. Honestly, DS9 was great with having really fascinating recurring characters.

Bester from Babylon 5. And Mordon. Both were such fun villains.

Kind of based on 3

What do you want to see more of in fic?

I love when characters use condoms when they should (one night stand, first time, etc).

Adults who can cook. It's just not that hard. There are step by step videos. There are classes. Just kind of tired of otherwise capable adult characters who have this weird teenager/fratboy inability.

Tbf, a large percentage of adults don’t cook. They have learned and forgotten or never learned. America lives on convenience food.

As a fandom trope, I just find it really old.

The world isn't set in america. Most fandoms have jackshit to do with that country.

I don't care whether they can or can't cook but I hate the comedic "I can't cook" characters where it's supposed to be cute or funny that they can't cook and other people have to either eat their nasty food so as not to hurt their feelings, or look after them and feed them. Probably because I didn't learn to cook until I was in my 20s (my mother completely banned me from the kitchen at all because I might eat food), and it's honestly not that hard.

Oddly specific advice question/vent

(Anonymous) 2025-08-26 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
Have any of you ever had a friend or family member who has a mental illness and gets into a lot of online drama? Someone close to me says very, very odd things on social media when having a manic episode, does unusual risky things, lashes out in anger at random, and has been posted as a subject of gossip/lolcow discussions due to their behavior. People find their behavior funny and egg them on, and they always fall for it. They respond to drama with drama. I've accepted that I can not control them or their followers, but I still get upset seeing it happen. It hurts to see someone I care about breaking down so publicly.

Does anyone have advice on disengaging from this type of thing and letting go? I've talked to them about it and done all I can to support this person, the situation is not changing unfortunately. How do I look away?

I mute them and just ignore anything from them that gets posted in other places. I know from experience that I can’t help them but trying can hurt me.

I’m sorry this is happening. I hope your loved one gets the help they need and can be happy and healthy someday.

Thank you, I think that's what I have to do. It can be hard to stop scrolling this stuff even though rationally I know me reading it isn't doing anything. Thank you for the kind words as well, I have really complicated feelings towards the person myself but I do truly care a lot about them and hope that things get better for them.

Same anon

Also sorry to hear that you can relate, I hope things improve for your loved one as well

Depends. What mental illness?

Re: Oddly specific advice question/vent

(Anonymous) 2025-08-26 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
Yep. It didn't settle down until their condition settles down (which can take a long time.) In the case of my family member, this was actually less harmful than when they were into online gambling, so it didn't feel quite as bad? Block and unfollow everywhere, there was no way to persuade my family member to get offline when they were in manic mode.

That all makes sense. Thank you for your reply, I'm sorry for the situation you and your family member were dealing with (hopefully things are calmer now) but hearing other people are in a similar boat is really helpful because of how overwhelming it's been for me lately. It helps just remembering I'm not the only person who's had to navigate this.

Is it Teal Swan?

Re: Oddly specific advice question/vent

Tbh I’m that person half because people annoy me a lot and that includes online people (shutup keyboard warrior) half because I don’t actually care what some stranger on the big bad web has to say about me or my behavior based on a few posts. I miss when this was the general attitude haha just go offline the internet isn’t real etc. When someone cares too much about what’s being said and done on the internet I know they haven’t lived enough and I laugh at them

Also really wish people would wake up, the internet has always allowed people to express themselves in extreme ways that they wouldn’t IRL and I see it as a form of artistic expression (no, that actor who portrays a murderer has never actually murdered anyone) so I say take EVERYTHING with a grain of salt since long ago but somewhere around 2010 it seems like everything went to shit with teens revealing their names and ages and sexualities publicly because the algorithm outed them anyways and then around 2020 it got even worse, with pandemic going full panopticon on us and all this damn AI shit, so many spaces online are taken over by political agendas and bots and generated crap we may as well treat everything online as a conspiracy so in short I will keep up my unhinged usage of the web that 1) is fun to me 2) keeps the algorithm confused 3) doesn’t matter to my real job 4) throws off the stalkers whose only use to society is sucking (wtf is lolcow grow past 12 AH)

Highly recommend this to everyone else, btw, because I am tired of what the internet is doing to us

(Anonymous) 2025-08-26 04:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks for your perspective. Unfortunately my loved one isn't "just having fun being unhinged," they get really upset by the harassment and fighting, and describe their own internet use as destructive/compulsive. The cycle they go through with this stuff sucks as much for them as for us, it's sad to see them unable to stop it.

Their online behavior has also caused serious IRL problems for them and their family more than once, hopefully not the case for you. Believe me if they were just "cringey" (who cares) and had some no-life internet stalkers but otherwise things were good I would not be complaining.

idk what lolcow is either, i don't care, and may anyone who's stalking people and calling them lolcows on the internet just fade away into oblivion and then drop dead painfully.
