Hrmmmmmmm. I don't think I've ever talked with anyone who fit either of these extremes. My dad liked MASH quite a lot (he was a WWII & Korean war vet), and we always watched it. He thought the military stuff was a little silly (unrealistic), but he would talk about the surgical/medical stuff and answer questions.

I like Hawkeye to an extent, but you can see how Alda's ego kind of went on a bit of a rampage sometimes. But overall, the character did have some growth and some change. Margaret and Father Mulcahy and Klinger were always my favorites.

Honestly, my biggest beef with Alda/Hawkeye was how bad he was at crying.
