If you’re in a right to work state, it’s most likely he was fired for giving notice because it saves the company money. This is especially true for employees with seniority because the cost to the company for unemployment is a lot lower than their salary. The employee has no recourse because non-union employees in RTW states only have a few federal protections. And some companies qualify for federal benefits for downsizing their workforce, which is one reason so many posted jobs go unfilled despite record applications.
