Is asexual the new asperger's or what? I was out of fandom for a year or two, and all of a sudden it's like everyone who hasn't fucked anyone yet/in awhile is this soopar speshul snowflake of untold proportions.

[identity profile] chuckney.livejournal.com 2009-10-30 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
I was going to take the time to write a calm, detailed and intelligent reply. Then I realised you weren't worth it.

(Anonymous) 2009-10-30 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
so basically you don't have one

cool story

(Anonymous) 2009-10-30 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
Pretty much. It's not that no one wants to fuck them, its that they're just not 'into' sex.

Its like calling yourself bi just so you can have a better chance of finding someone, anyone, willing to touch you.

(Anonymous) 2009-10-30 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
Because everyone must secretly want sex, right? Even if it's just a repulsive, messy, hideously unappealing method of shallow self-affirmation so you can try to convince yourself that people really do like you. There's absolutely no chance that there really is such thing as someone who feels differently about sex! Let me guess, you probably also think gay people are just heterosexuals who ran out of straight fuck buddies?

(Anonymous) 2009-10-30 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
True asexuality, as in nothing and no one has now or ever will excite you, is the only true perversion.

(Anonymous) 2009-10-30 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
wow, I must be pretty fucking perverted :(

(Anonymous) 2009-10-30 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
Oh no, not everyone. Just the crazy fangirl ones who would rather call themselves the flavor of the month than be the girl who's not getting any.

Since we're betting, I bet this is just as much of a slap in the face to actual asexual people as online aspergers is to real aspergers.

(Anonymous) 2009-11-01 04:00 pm (UTC)(link)
THIS THIS THIS THIS THIS SFM THIS

asdfghjkl; "I have Internet Assburgers!" "Oh wait I'm AAAAAAA-secksual!"

Um, more like you have ZERO ZILCH ZIP NADA RL experience, kiddies.

Deal with a family and a job and walking down the street and interacting with others in standard social settings (church, bar, coffee shop, book club, dog park, where-the-fuck-ever) outside of your computer screen for several years, and then and ONLY THEN tell me you're either one of the above.

Not WANTING to do any of the above things does not mean you are EITHER of the above labels; it just means you're privileged enough to not to HAVE to do any of those things for actual SURVIVAL as in, where your next meal is going to come from (social networking is essential too, to make sure you can keep the food coming in, should your meal ticket/career go south), so you don't even KNOW if you are actually ARE either/both of those labels you throw around so casually.

---Cranky, snarky, old, flamey non-Assburgers anon is cranky, snarky, and old (and flamey), what with all these rich little hikkomori (sp?) who just need their over-indulgent parents to kick their asses, so they can buy a fucking clue.---

As someone with diagnosed Aspergers, I can say that no, people online claiming they have it, whether or not they've actually been diagnosed doesn't feel like a slap in the face to me. What does feel like a slap in the face are ignorant people who got all their knowledge of the syndrome from one or a few online articles and yet will claim to have more knowledge about my personlity, strengths, weaknesses, feelings and thoughts than I do.

So please stop doing that.

[identity profile] herlittlepony.livejournal.com 2009-10-30 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
Honestly, anon, I think it's pretty rude for you to label sex like that. I respect you if you don't desire it and I know it can be difficult to live in a sex-obsessed world when you yourself don't feel the appeal. But it's not "a repulsive, messy, hideously unappealing method of shallow self-affirmation" for all of us. Some people enjoy the emotional closeness it can afford with someone they love; some people genuinely enjoy the physical pleasure, and they shouldn't be judged or demeaned for that.

Again, if you don't like it, that's fine! Nobody should put you down for it. But you shouldn't treat people who enjoy sex (which is a majority of people, for a number of reasons) as shallow, gross, needy, or irresponsible, because that's just not the case.

(Anonymous) 2009-10-30 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
I wasn't calling the people having sex gross, I was referring to the act itself. But you're right, my generalization about the reason for having sex was unnecessary.

(Anonymous) 2009-10-30 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
The first comment other anon was replying to would have made me see red and lash out if I wasn't so used to and expecting those remarks to pop up by now. I guess I just want to say other anon's reply to this was well done and I have a long way to go.

[identity profile] icebilby.livejournal.com 2009-10-30 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, pretty much, like the above said. They have a tendency to act better than everyone else, too, with levels of egotism so high I almost couldn't believe it. And I've seen some pretty fucking pompous groups of people.

[identity profile] kitty-wake.livejournal.com 2009-10-30 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, you're a tosser. I was going to reply politely to your comment above, but it turns out you're a dickhead. Well, it makes my life simpler.

People are acting superior to you because you're an arse, plain and simple. Maybe if you were less judgemental, you'd get a better reception.

[identity profile] icebilby.livejournal.com 2009-10-30 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
Because that's totally a mature response.

Just go take a look at the community, if you don't believe me.

(Anonymous) 2009-10-30 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
Go away. You're yucky.

(Anonymous) 2009-10-30 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
NO U

(Anonymous) 2009-10-30 02:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Ugh, you are SO gross.

(Anonymous) 2009-10-30 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
With your attitude, I can't imagine why asexuals think they're better than you.

Get off your high horse and quit caring about other people's sexuality. It doesn't affect you. If people want to identify as asexual who the fuck cares? Sexuality is not as black and white as some people think it is.

[identity profile] rekallthegreat.livejournal.com 2009-10-30 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
Besides this comm, where exactly in fandom is asexuality mention on a regular basis? I'm in a number of fandoms and it certainly isn't mentioned there. In fandom there are a lot more comments of "I'll do him/her" and "I'll hit that", than "I would enter a platonic relationship with him/her but no sex because I don't roll that way".

Hell, the majority of my flist doesn't even know that I'm asexual. It's definitely not a secret, since I tell them if they ask, but fandom simply doesn't work that way: "Wow! That was a great show last night! And I was able to watch it too since I'm ASEXUAL and NOT HAVING SEX unlike you other FILTHY FILTHY SEXUAL PEOPLE".

[identity profile] dinsedaledarby.livejournal.com 2009-10-30 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
yes to all of that, thank you.

[identity profile] phaetonschariot.livejournal.com 2009-10-30 05:50 am (UTC)(link)
I've definitely had way, way, way more experiences of being uncomfortable when conversations about how hot some celeb is drag on for more than half an hour in a chatroom than experiences where multiple people have discussed being asexual. [livejournal.com profile] fandomsecrets is the only place I've seen groups of asexuals talking about it, and that's only in response to secrets about asexuality.

I suspect part of my f-list probably knows I am. The part that I talk to a lot on twitter and things, because it's probably come up a couple of times. But it's not like I include a disclaimer every time I post a fic "here's some more smut for you! By the way I'd never do this in real life, I'm asexual and while I find fictional sex interesting to write and read, I think the actual act is icky!"
