After spending my childhood forced into overly modest clothing for church events, I've finally broken out of my hatred of long skirts and dresses and have a closet with lots of them... just in time for them to come back into style as weird fundamentalist Christian signalling again. Now I worry about giving off those vibes to others even though they're actually really comfy to wear. All I want to do is wear a long dress with pockets because the cuteness to laziness ratio can't be beat.

They're very popular among young trans women right now, too! Just pop on a few trans rights pins or dye your hair a funky colour and you'll be fine.

Fundies also drink water and breathe air. You don't stop that either.

I bought one of those long denim skirts and THEN saw online they were a fundie thing (I had no idea! They were on trend!)

Wear what you want. People not in that subculture won't make that assumption unless you're doing other things that fit the subculture. (Like, if I see a modest dress with long hair that's never been cut or certain kinds of headcoverings, it's different than someone wearing red lipstick and funky earrings).

Yeah I was gonna say that I had no idea that was a fundie thing because I live in a super blue area and see people dressing like that all the time here. People love the sort of boho chic style of long, flowy skirts.
