Yeah, it was refreshing at the beginning, with the woman being the scientific logical one. But you can only do that for a few seasons before it just became "the woman is always wrong" again.

The Face the Future movie sucked so hard when the fucking spaceship took off and she lifted her head RIGHT AFTERWARD so she MISSED IT. What the fuck.

She spent half the film in alien stasis and didn't even peep the ship.

(I like the movie and series overall, but I agree with OP of this secret.)

But that's not what happened? She absolutely worked with the weird shit, while not believing in Mulder's wild theories, and was almost always the one to work out how to proceed and actually solve the case rather than run off on a wild alien chase (especially as a vast number of the episodes didn't involve aliens at all.) Mulder's initial theories were almost always wrong (he says aliens! actually it's computer or a werewolf or mind control) and the two of them honed those theories into something better over the course of the episode.

I agree about being annoyed that she always just missed the aliens, though!

Yeah, Mulder leapt to "aliens" as his first explanation. And Scully was "but what if, not aliens" and sought evidence first. That was in the classic seasons, in the later post-Fox season she was in Scully tended to take "ALIENS!" route to balance out Agent Doggett's skepticism.

That is true until... maybe the end of the first season. At the very latest. Pretty much the first half of the first season, though, yes.

Scully was skeptic, in the true sense of the word, in that she didn't just leap to aliens and monsters as the first resort, like Foxy-boi, but carefully ruled out other more likely options first.

That she was this hardcore denialist was, and apparently still is, a lazy meme not based on actual watching of the show.
