Barbie has canonically run for President of the United States (Barbie for President, 1991), and the minimum age at which you're allowed to do that is 35. She has also had multiple careers that require advanced degrees, despite only occasionally being a genius. She is also, as you state, a teen model.
Therefore, the only logical conclusion is that Barbie's age is neither fixed nor linear, and she is always exactly as old or as young as required to make the bit work.

I'm not even a Barbie geek, my mother is, but her age always seemed kind of flexible. She's not a child nor middle-aged either, so anything in-between goes. She can be a 35+ president or a young prodigy doctor, or college student. A 30-something actor isn't too far off or crazy.

i agree, to me barbie is just kind of the general concept. but stuff like her age and race and appearance are all variable, there's surely not some barbie canon of how old she is?? 😭

Dude. It's a toy, she's perpetually a 20-something, real world politics/age don't apply. You might as well say she's 66 because she debuted in 1959, and by all means we could have had Amy Sedaris reprising her Strangers With Candy role in this film, but that wouldn't be Barbie either.

Because Barbie's a toy, she's always the age she needs to be. 'Math is Hard' Barbie is in high school. President Barbie's in her 30s. Doctor Barbie's in her mid-to-late 20s and Forest Elf Barbie is 1,959 years old. 7-year-old girls understand this and so can you.

Nahh, she's just a twenty-something. A young twenty-something. Everyone with eyes can tell you this, because shes a toy she doesn't hold to the standard of elf-life, or political scum. She's a barbie. Shit's not that hard to figure out. Holding real life standards to her is just plain stupid. I'm sure those seven year olds your so in tune with will also say Barbie's little sister is also her daughter, so don't even pretend.

I always assumed that Barbie was a Nurse Joy type character. Technically the same character but different people, all named Barbie.
