I mean, sure, if you're reading ATG fic for the tropes, I guess? It certainly explains the big numbers that super-tropey fic that bears little resemblance to canon characters can do. But I wouldn't really consider that being in the fandom at all.

Maybe if you're reading it for the tropes it looks that way, or if you're calling genres "tropes" like "worldbuilding" or "mystery" or "character study". But even if I'm reading, say, a romance fic I don't want to read about Tough Girl and Sweet Girl getting together, I want to read about these specific characters* and how they specifically get together.
