THIS. I've always seen it used ironically, especially in animanga fandom.

There were a few instances where someone used it unironically and it was weird. I think those people don't even know fandom, though. They gave me the same vibes as people who write "cannon" instead on canon, lol.

It's pretty much always ironic or at least supposed to be... that seems to have gotten lost somewhere though.

Example:
Kid: lol old man
25 year old: Don't call me old man, call me bro! bro! I'm still young enough to be your bro
Kid: lol old man

And people who aren't familiar with this extremely tropey situation assume that the kid is calling the guy "grandpa" aged and not "uncle" aged...
