A young healthy girl is never just plain. She danced well, wore nice dresses. She is desirable for any 40+ man. Youth is a hell of a drug.

This comment has a weirdly incel-y vibe

She has the requisite birthing hips to produce many fine sons.

Yeah, in what world an attractive young girl is plain? OP's mysoginy is showing.

In the book, Mary was not described as attractive. "Plain" is the exact description used by Jane Austen, OP didn't invent it.

How is it misogynistic to say that someone is plain? Not everyone is attractive. That's a fact of life, not a statement of hatred.

Where in the novel does it say that Mary danced well? She avoids dancing and doesn't seem very inclined to attend balls much at all.

"She is desirable for any 40+ man. Youth is a hell of a drug."

I mean... up until a point. But when she's got three more attractive sisters (two of whom are reputed local beauties) that's a tough life and she went through the novel with no suitors or male interest whatsoever, not even from the 40+ crowd.
