I went on a blocking spree on Facebook due to all the RIP posts. I don’t think a lot of the celebratory stuff I’ve seen is any better but the people doing that don’t scare me. I think they’re more likely venting steam. But the ones who mourn such an odious man are a real threat to me.

I have a very curated feed, so any posts related to Kirk were amusing gallows humor/contempt for all the (crocodile?) tears shed while an actual school shooting the same day is going to be all but completely ignored.

Same. But mostly because the people I see mourning his passing or expressing outrage that he was shot are people who wouldn't shed a tear if he was liberal. The fact that he was a wealthy white man who espoused gross, conservative opinions means his death matters more. They wouldn't be upset if someone attacked Biden, they're not upset about school shootings, or January 6th or immigrants being tossed into concrete cells with no food or water. But you attack a rich white guy and ohhhhhhh boy look out...

They didn't give a shit when a Dem politician and her husband were murdered in Minnesota earlier this year, or the kids that died in a shooting literally weeks ago. So I'm just "whatever" about this.

DA

This is kind of where I'm at, too. I don't want to hear anyone on the right get offended or complain about the mocking and cavalier reactions to his death - the right sure doesn't seem to mind supporting a party that shrugs off countless mass shootings, or Trump, who once said at a rally that people just need to "get over" mass shootings, or a party that actively tries to gut our healthcare system while simutaneously going on about how these kinds of acts are the restult of "mental health issues". The right has made a whole career out of not giving a shit whether people lived or died, be it because of gun violence or lack of healthcare or abortion bans or pandemics or so on. So if they get a taste of their own medicine, well...so be it.

All of the above being said, however, one would like to hope and think that this would wake up people on the right to the importance of strict gun control, because we way, WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY past the point where that needs to be a thing already.

But of course, I'm not exactly holding my breath that the right will take the correct realization from this.

I'm not wholly anti-gun and I'm not sure what my opinion on all that even is (very complicated, I feel conflicted), but even if I was, it still doesn't change that this country won't budge on that issue. Kirk's made insane comments about we still need 2A no matter what and that children should see public executions and other shit. Obviously, no, I don't think crazy opinions are worth getting murdered over, but a whacko dying by what they advocate for makes me care even less. The other TPUSA guy died from Covid, you can guess what his opinions on that was.

Exactly. Conservatives have honed hypocrisy into a fine art over the years, and they have zero shame about it. They know their constituency is too stupid to hold them accountable for anything they say, so they'll say whatever they think they need to in the moment.

They'll just use his death for political gain anyway, just like they did with Corey Comperatore.
