Oh, I'm not saying it's bad for something to be for kids! My point is that movies aimed at kids are working within different parameters than movies aimed at an older audience. Basically, I wonder if OP is judging it for not doing X when it wasn't even trying to do X; it was trying to do Y, instead.

As for Frozen, honestly, and I know this is an unpopular opinion, I really kind of like the second one. The way they depicted the shamanic journey is incredible.

ah, i misunderstood you a little!

I do think that secret OP is very much judging it on things it's not concerned with, but on the other hand I don't think being a kids move is all that related to it *not* doing those things; kids media is entirely capable of having nuanced characters and ensemble casts, unless it's like...Blues Clues level young child target audience. but also secret op is right about those failings. it WOULD be way stronger having the finale turn on the female friendship if mira and zoe were better developed, for instance. if you don't buy the way their dynamic is set up in the opening song, it feels a little anemic
