Has it been considered that the "lack of romance" may ultimately serve to support the strict control that entertainment companies exert over K-Pop stars? On the surface, it appears "refreshing" for it to come to nothing. But the underlying goal is to maintain the prohibition on dating in real life, the purpose of which is to position these singers as objects of romantic and sexual fantasy for their fans.

That may be read as commentary if you reach, but it was obvious the lack of romance in-universe wasn't because of that. Trying not to spoil because it kind of sounds like you're making assumptions about why there was no endgame couple without having seen the movie.

...They literally have a duet about facing their problems together. They just don't get together, even though they OBVIOUSLY have feelings for each other.

I don't at all see how this refutes the argument. K-Pop stars aren't disallowed from having feelings for people; they're disallowed from dating. "I have feelings for you, but I'm not going to date you" is perfectly in line with what's expected of them.

But that's not what happens. They don't decide not to date despite their feelings.

SPOILER but he literally dies. And sure, you could make a convoluted case about "him dying to protect her is a metaphor for him sacrificing himself/their relationship to protect her career" but.... eeh.
