AYRT - non-bible-belt part of the US. Most of the hostile (to atheists and/or other religions) religious people I've met are some variety or other of Christian.

I did have two Muslim friends in high school who debated with each other about whether non-believers (I think in any Abrahamic religion, not just Islam?) could/would get into paradise when they died. The more outwardly observant (headscarf, modest clothes, etc) friend said yes, the more rebellious (wore shorts, didn't cover her hair, swore) said no. But they were debating with each other, not me, and they definitely weren't being cruel or judgmental.
