Yup. Movie versions can often end up replacing the book version in people's minds. Like with Wizard of Oz where many people don't know that they are silver slippers in the book.

There are about a million differences between book Wizard of Oz and movie Wizard of Oz

Oh, totally. And personally, the thing that ruins the movie for me is the "its all a dream" thing. but the shoe one is just one that is commonly assumed to be the same by people who either haven't read the books or have just had the movie supplant the book in their mind.
