Re: Have you had surgery?

Not thoroughly fact checked but from a quick google, looks like 85% of people need wisdom teeth removed, which I'd guess is the most common surgery. So yeah, if that counts, seems like a majority of people get surgery at SOME point.

Huh, my wisdome teeth were just pulled out, I wouldn't have considered that surgery. But good point.

When filling out medical and insurance forms, everyone will tell you wisdom tooth removal doesn’t count as a surgery. I think because it isn’t invasive and doesn’t contribute to your health history.

That depends! Some people (like me) just get them taken out by a dentist like any other tooth, and I wouldn't count that as a surgery. Some people (like my brother) need general anasthetic and a dental surgeon and I would count that.

What your brother had was oral surgery and if he includes it in his medical records, everyone will most likely just brush it off. If he needs anesthesia in the future, the anesthesiologist will ask regardless what the forms indicate. Typically if you need anesthesia for something, the paperwork asking about previous surgeries will say including oral/dental surgery.

Yes, he's had surgery since and they asked. I've had several major surgeries and was also asked. Nobody brushed anything off.
