the absolute reaching is what gets me. now to be fair, it's not just the gaylors who do it. there are plenty of other swifties who are just as guilty, but people will find the most obscure connections and insist that it's a secret message. like i've seen people post a picture of taylor walking past a store with a flower name and then a picture of karlie kloss photographed with the flower and be like, see!! it's a sign!!! and like dude. karlie is a model and has had countless photos taken of her. same with taylor, she's a huge celeb and has had a zillion photos taken of her too. sometimes it's just not that deep man. sometimes it's just a coincidence.

I just don't get why they are so obsessed with her in particular being gay/queer. Why not focus on some of the female musicians who are fully out as gay/queer, instead of hyperfixating on one who isn't? There are so many talented queer women they could spend time on instead of focusing on this one.

I have seen literal comments like, "If she wrote XYZ song about a woman, it's devastating. If she wrote it about Joe Alywnn, it's pathetic." Also, "Gay men are insistent that she is straight because they can't imagine her music isn't written about men." ??? (Also they don't see the hypocrisy in them insisting her music is about women and and then shitting on gay men who are insisting it's about men.) And I don't get that. Isn't the whole point of art that it speaks to different people in different ways, and that's the beauty of it? So people can connect it to their own lives and their own experiences, however different those may be?

I think some queer people are so mired in online discourse where everything they like has to be GAY TM, that if they like something that isn't they have to tie themselves in knots to argue how it actually is otherwise they loose their gay card or something?

Like I enjoy some T-Swift songs because I think they're fun and catchy, I'm also a raging lesbian, my like of her music does not invalidate that and I can like her music as a queer woman because the beauty of music is that it can speak to different people. Shocking.

I don't hate the characters that get saddled with this but I absolutely hate that trope, I can see in some cases where it might be applicable, as in: if she does this in the canon then fair enough if it crops up in fic. But it's way overused in fandom to annoying levels.
