No. I've had a simple one similar to cheaper one you listed for like 10 years and it's done fine. If all you're doing is cooking rice in it you don't need anything fancy.

Just didn't know if the difference between cooking white and brown rice is huge enough to need a special button or not. In that case, I'll probably get the cheaper one.

If you often or mostly cook brown rice, it might matter.

It hasn't made a difference for me. I add a little more water with brown rice and it's been fine.

I will say I am not super picky about my rice. As long as it's not crunchy or soggy I'm happy.

Yeah, I think I'll get the cheaper one. I don't cook brown rice often.
