IME, the very simple one-button rice cookers work great and if you don't need a lot of different functions from your rice cooker, it should be fine. Hopefully the nonstick insert will mean no gummy bottom layer - that used to be a problem with the older models.

Personally, I own and like the more expensive model and the timer setting comes in handy at times when I'm leaving the house, but want fresh rice at a certain time and don't want to keep it on warm for hours until it dries out.
