I like or am neutral about a fair number of canon ships in canon. Though there have been some where I was rooting for them in canon, they got together, and then the writers either completely dropped the ball or went in a direction I didn't want to follow. And I'm on the fence about the "technically" canon ships - you know the ones, it's the series finale and they are implied to get together - sometimes this type of thing feels sort of fitting, sometimes it feels like a copout.

I usually don't go looking for canon ships in fanfic, though there are exceptions. A lot of the ships I look for in fanfic, I do or did not want to become canon. I will say, though, it really annoys me when there's a non-canon ship that I like and it gets a lot of notice and then the character interaction in canon sharply decreases (possibly to discourage the shippers or because it's taking away attention from the creator's pet or something). The reason I ship those characters is because I like their interactions, I don't need subtext, but I do want them in scenes together.
