There aren't a lot of games where this is a thing, but when it is it's almost trigger-level. For example, if you play any of the Yakuza games, you literally have to drink your way through 3-5 bars in every game to get completion, and being drunk is a power boost, so DO NOT PLAY. As fun as they are, you'll never get completion if you don't expose yourself to this mechanic. You're better off not playing.

So ime it's an all or nothing. Most games, it's barely a passing reference, maybe a sake cup drunk as an oath or a single cut scene in an optional romance. In a small handful, it's literally a mechanic. There is no in-between that would feel safe to anyone in recovery.
