As a former retail worker of twenty years standing, and as someone of a certain age who's had a recent mastectomy, I have no problem calling out shitty service any more. I'm missing a body part and don't want to stand around while two youngsters stand behind a till conferring or rehydrating. Do your damn jobs. It's not that hard.

/grumpy old woman, working on crabby old woman.

I'm old and not in great shape. While I don't love crappy customer service, I don't yell at people for it, either.

ayrt Nor do I. Neither do I tolerate it.

while I do agree that people talking/conferring while making you wait is in bad form, I'd actually prefer the staff take 30 seconds to rehydrate and make me wait than to faint/get ill due to dehydration. And if you think I'm exaggerating: it happened when I was working in a restaurant while there were 35-38° to a couple of my coworkers. We could drink water in front of customers because it was "rude" and couldn't really get a single minute of pause in 8-10 hours.
Having a little time to rehydrate while at work should be a basic human right. I'm side eyeing you for seeing it as "not doing your job".

+1

I used to have a job where I wasn't allowed to drink water in front of the customers, it was actual hell trying to get time to go back for a sip of water. Service has to be REALLY bad before I get cranky.

God forbid someone takes a sip between customers, or have a chat when someone isn't immediately there.

I don't work retail anymore but I don't miss the rude as shit assholes like yourself who think the world revolves around you and no one else is allowed to take a moment of time to themselves. Also if you're shit: you're going to get shit service, and I say that from memory, the rude customers got a 'nope we don't have any' even if I knew full well we had more stock out back, because I wasn't about to wait hand and foot on their shitty asses. Get out of my store and get bent. The nice customers? Yeah I'd go check for them no problem.

It baffles me that shitheads thing being rude work when it doesn't, we'd just get you out faster lol.

LOL no it was a fine spring day, not hot or even warm. Second staff member had just emerged from the depths of the back rooms where she could have ~rehydrated~ without doing so in front of a waiting customer. And never once in twenty years have I done that or completely ignored a customer while ~conferring~ with a colleague. A nod of acknowledgement, a "I'll be with you in a moment," they go a long way to not ignoring or dehumanising a customer.

I know shitty service when I see it. I was in the trade a long time.

Ah yes because people don’t need to drink if it’s not hot! So sad that you feel dehumanised by someone taking a drink or talking to a colleague while you’re dehumanising retail workers for needing a basic human requirement such as water.

So yeah you’re a shithead and you get shit service because the people behind the counter can see that and you deserve every fucking second of it. I really hope you continue to get ignored and treated like the asshole you are.

oh my god, the utter irony of you talking about dehumanization while making it very clear what kind of vile customer you are. yeah i’d ignore you too cunt.
