City to visit for Halloween

(Anonymous) 2025-10-10 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
Next year, I want to take a big trip to a city that celebrates Halloween. Not someplace like Salem that is packed. Some big city. Right now, the frontrunner is Philadelphia because it has the big Eastern State Penitentiary event and (I think) some haunted tours. Any other suggestions?

Chicago has a lot of haunted houses and tours. I don’t know if they do any big events but when I drove through last week I was sad that I couldn’t stop and spend a day going to all the stuff I saw on billboards.

New Orleans gets pretty decked out. I've never been to Savanna Georgia, but I've heard it is fun at Halloween. Los Angeles has some cool stuff. And I'm sure New York City must be great.

Seconding New Orleans. You can see the Anne Rice house and cemetery tours and haunted houses, go to voodoo shops and walk around having fun in costume.

New Orleans kind of has that vibe year round, and in late October you have a shot at cooler temperatures. The food's amazing, too.

For bigger cities that are all apparently Halloween havens, Kansas City MO, San Francisco CA, Charleston SC, Cleveland OH, Salt Lake City UT (for real), and Savannah GA (New Orleans LA, New York NY, and Orlando FL also make the list, but I think all of these will be packed, too). Smaller ones include Sleepy Hollow NY (which makes a lot of sense and maybe something I would like to go to someday), Telluride CO, and Anoka MN (I'd never heard of it before, but it has the title "Halloween Capital of the World").
