Maybe it's hindsight bias, but I feel like I knew that Life of a Showgirl wasn't going to be very good. Like, from the second she announced it.

1. She's happy. She never writes her best when she's happy.
2. It's her 12th album. Yes every album has crazy high expectations on it, but TS13 is going to have them even more. By a lot. If I were Taylor, I would be hoarding any song that even seemed *slightly* genius for that album.

The upshot of this is that Showgirl turned out to be way better than I expected, and it's a nice surprise! At the first listen it was just...fine, but at this point I genuinely like it.

(I mean, I wish someone had slapped some sense into her about Wood, but one cringey song is not the end of the world or her career.)
