(Anonymous) 2025-10-12 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)Maybe the FIFA world cup in Qatar already wore down the moral high ground for the rest of the world.

(Anonymous) 2025-10-13 12:20 am (UTC)(link)The blame for this US government falls squarely on the shoulders of my fellow brainless & spineless countrymen who either could not be dissuaded from voting for a known rapist pedophile or who stayed home and pouted like babies because the woman candidate wasn't the absolute epitome of ethereal perfection.

(Anonymous) 2025-10-13 11:45 am (UTC)(link)But then he's perfectly OK with getting in line for the Saudi government to get some money.
It comes off disingenuous. You want to criticize your own government for committing war crimes against their own citizens, but you'll kiss the butts of other nation's leaders for a quick cash grab knowing full well that nation commits similar crimes against their own people.
That can be said for someone like Dave Chapelle, who loves getting on his high horse about how he as a comedian is keeping it real and upsetting people is proof that his works are to make people think.
Sure Dave.
These fucking hacks should just be honest and say they want money. They make bits that get them the most claps. They have no real desire or feelings of obligation to do the right thing because they too are a human being trying to live life. They're just rich comedians who will book a show if the price is right.
I've personally gone through the "don't worship comedians/celebrities just because the politics they speak of seem like they're aligned with my own...because they're going to disappoint soon enough" stages of grief and upset way before this.
But it's still annoying to see the hypocrisy and to have to deal with bullshit excuses.
Tl;dr - Americans aren't upset that comedians went to a country they think are morally corrupt/evil.
Americans are upset that comedians who routinely criticize their own country for being morally corrupt evil and often explain away why they continue to make what people deem as offensive jokes with "I'm speaking truth to power! That's the role of a comedian!" Yet threw all their moral righteousness out the window to go to another country where they explicitly were told they could not criticize that country's own government and leaders.
It's never been about being a "truth teller." Right now many people are faced with the real truth that these "edgy, truth telling, nothing's going to hold them back from speaking their mind!!" comedians are just following the money. They have no morals that help them determine what jokes theyre going to tell, they just say what will get them the most money and fame/attention."

(Anonymous) 2025-10-13 01:33 pm (UTC)(link)You seem to have missed what people are having an issue with. It’s not the physical location of the festival. It’s being part of a propaganda event for a particular political entity.
You get the same thing within the US when musicians or comedians agree to perform at political party events. With the added dimension (as mentioned above) of comedians who professed to be all about telling the uncomfortable truth and using comedy as a positive (subversive) political tool.

(Anonymous) 2025-10-14 01:39 pm (UTC)(link)insane take, super weird aggressive wording, there are plenty of extremely level-headed reasons to object to SA (which I have objected to since the terrible president paling around with them was Bush) without getting into 'chopping bodies, what is your weird grudge
don't really care about comedians doing whatever though
