Avatar: The Last Airbender needed only 3 seasons to redeem Prince Zuko in one of the best TV redemption arcs out there. On a kids' cartoon. So I agree, OP, why can't other TV shows get it right?

This right here. A prime example of getting it right. And Zuko earned it, and it didn't come easy. It took time for people who had been hurt by him to believe his redemption. It was believable.
