there's been a steady upswing in normies showing their love of fandom since 2012 easily, if anything it peaked around the start of 2020 and has plateaued since.

I'm fine with it since it means I don't have to explain what cosplay is anymore, the instances of someone in a Marvel t-shirt not comprehending that things like fic or fanmerch or other things exist has dropped off to a rare moment of hilarity rather than the expectation.
