Ages old but 1999 The Mummy movie not having much of a fandom is a surprise given how widely beloved it seems to be in fandom. It's not like it doesn't have things to work with to make fun adventure fic but there's very little fanwork out there for it.

I feel like it is just so perfect as is that it can be hard to fandom? Like, I feel like for things to have an active fandom there either has to be a lot of room beyond what we see/read to explore in terms of world/characters or there need to be enough flaws that people want to improve by creating their own versions.

Mainstream popularity and fandom popularity have overlaps, but this is one of those movies where the movie itself felt very complete? And there were two sequels, even though people don't like to acknowledge the third one, LOL. That kind of thing seems to satisfy most fannish urges.

It's old enough that a lot of the fic might've been not just on ff.net, but geocities, angelfire, mailing lists, etc.

If it was released today, I think it would have a pretty big fandom.
