AYRT: I "hate" those fandom memes that ask about your first fandom for that reason. Not really, it's an innocuous question, but I feel like I have to either dodge the question very poorly ("I used to like a popular British children's book series"), or give a long disclaimer that if I'd known what I know now, etc. etc.

Her books really did have good commentary. I wish she'd gone the other away, acknowledged the flaws, acknowledged her own, and even tried fixing the initial problems. Actually fixing them.

Yeah, it is kind of funny that it has become "the fandom that must not be named," but people can be a little ridiculous about it. Like if you read that shit back in the 2000s, no one knew, you shouldn't have to write an essay and grovel that you once enjoyed it.
