TV shows that were too long or too short

What shows do you think ran on too long? What shows do you wish had more seasons?

I always thought Lost would have been better if it were only one season.

Same with Stranger Things.

Stranger Things would have been so much better being one-shot

Saturday Night Live and the Simpsons stopped being good decades ago and I used to love them.

Totally agree on both. Dad and I used to watch Simpsons together. But it stopped being good years ago.

Old Simpsons is such a comfort watch for me. I was an early 90's child and my entire family was obsessed growing up. It's still endlessly rewatchable for me. Which seasons were your faves?

I like the first nine or ten seasons but I don't really have a favorite season.

agreed, we're finally doing an overdue rewatch, we've made it to 16 and finally are able to say that above season 10, there are more misses than hits and after 15 that difference gets wider. there's still a few unexpected gems above season 15 but they are fewer and more far-between.

all the Fox-origin animation series are in the same boat. Family Guy isn't any different, you got maybe to season 8 for good returns but 10-15 is comparable to Simpsons season 15 and anything above that is just ugh.

Simpsons was best between season 3-10. They lasted longer than all of their contemporaries.

Supernatural, especially with how they ended it.

Game of Thrones needed more, preferably with different show runners.

I'm still convinced SPN should have stuck to the original 5 year plan. And yes to Game of Thrones Showrunners who understood that some things, especially fundamental changes to characters, take time to make believable.

I sometimes wonder if D&D were a bit short sighted with their desires for GoT. I assume they truly felt they could do 1 season = 1 book and that by the time they got to seasons 4-5 GRRM would be so motivated because he's got a huge HBO show out of his ASOIAF series.

But when seasons 4-5 came around, it was seeming to be more complicated than the ideas of 1 book = 1 season and it's becoming obvious the final 2 books of the series will not be coming out any time soon, therefore the show will end before the books.

So they pulled a Damon Lindlof/Carlton Cuse "Lost" move of "we're going to pick a final season and we'll make everything fit within that deadline because we want the show to end on our terms".

But the funny thing is...the "Lost" showrunners were meticulous with the show lore. They did not make any major reveals on the show unless they knew for sure the answer to said plot point/twist.

Maybe because some successful "prestige tv" shows didn't reveal all their cards in really blatant ways, it gave off an impression that they were kind of making it up as they went. And so D&D (instead of looking at other viable options - such as handing over control of the show to someone else because they want to go do other projects) followed the "innovative and brilliant" showrunners of other "prestige TV" shows by "ending it on our terms" a la "Lost" showrunners, "Breaking Bad" showrunners, "The Sopranos" etc.
