I genuinely don't know how anyone can read the New Jedi Order and think it was more faithful to the original trilogy than the sequels. Fans have rose colored glasses when it comes to the EU. There were great parts, but also really terrible parts. Just like the sequels.

It seems very common to me that when people read for enjoyment, they will forget huge chunks of what they read. The longer a series, the more they forget. And if they haven’t read it very recently, it’s practically guaranteed they will only remember what they liked.

As someone who didn't like the EU back in the day, I wholeheartedly agree, and hope Disney has the sense not to make most of the stuff from it canon. Let multiple version of the SW universe exist!

NJO sucked ass. I hated every book that I read. Not because of any specific plot decisions (I don't care that Chewie died) but because it was so goddamn boring. Han spends like TEN BOOKS just piloting the Falcon around randomly while being sad and not doing anything constructive, Leia just tags along, Mara Jade's nebulously defined """"illness"""" is just dragged on and on and on and on, nothing gets a proper resolution. And the Yuuzhen Vong were boring as fuck invincible super villains that we're supposed to be fascinated by for some reason?? Holy fuck I hate NJO! It takes a great premise and then stretches it out across so many goddamn books that nothing fucking happens in it except for periodic moments where one of the writers wakes up and goes "oh shit something should explode huh" and then it goes back to into more puerile navel gazing about THE NATURE OF THE FORCE even though we already retreaded that territory so fucking much in the EU!

God I hate NJO!
