I wouldn't have minded him actually being a character in over his head and getting slapped in the face for it. But the way it was done wasn't that, it was just mean spirited playground bully jokes and honestly simply cringy to watch. Mom jokes? Really? What are you, twelve?

Seems like a good way to annoy your enemy and distract him, if that is your goal.

Hux as the Resistance spy might have been the dumbest plot point in TROS for me, and that's a high bar to reach considering the other dumb plot points.

"B-b-b-but people loved it when they did it in Rebels"
--Disney Producers, probably.

I just fucking loathe cringe humor and that what all of his getting knocked around and humiliated was -shitty cringe humor. There wasn't an actual character development reason behind it, just dumb, thoughtless, pointless slapstick cringe.

Agreed. On the one hand, I do like that a villain becomes an ally to the good guys out of spite more than altruism since that's a bit less common in popular media, but on the other, this was really dumb. TROS felt so much like, "We don't know what we want to do with these characters," and made decisions based off guesses as to what will be the safest choice but will also garner maximum audience gasps due to all the rug pulling.

"Somehow Palpatine returned."
Leia didn't die!
Hux is a traitor and rebel ally!
Rey is a Palpatine + "My name is Rey Skywalker"
Rey and Kylo Ren canonize their ship!
Kylo Ren dies with an redemption arc.
Chewy died! No he didn't! XD
