As always, including the fandom and full character names is a big help, and while I'm definitely not the world's greatest expert at secret design, I'll try my best. Please note that long comment secrets can be difficult to make with a good end result. Most of the time, I'll give it a shot but might not be able to make secrets where the text is so lengthy that I can't fit it into the limited space.

I'm trying something new with the comment secret thread and extending the deadline to comment until Sunday's post goes up. I'll monitor this thread until then, and hope the extra day will be more helpful for everyone.

Fandom: Long Story Short

I knew that there would be a lot of video essays on this show and that a lot of well-meaning gentiles would be misinterpreting Judaism and Jewish culture.

The most consistent one that drives me up a wall is referring to becoming Orthodox as "converting". Every. Single. Video. Y'all. You don't convert to Orthodox Judaism when you're born Jewish. It's not a separate religion. It's choosing to ramp up your degree of observance in a religion that has some pretty wild laws that a lot of us just can't with. I mean good for those that can do it, but it takes a special mindset.

And people around the newly Orthodox person (trying not to spoil) aren't mad because they've "switched religions". They're mad because newly Orthodox people are massive pains in the ass, especially right when they're new to Orthodoxy and all self-conscious about following as many laws as possible and dragging other Jews into it with guilt.

I'm not a HP fanfic reader, so it wasn't until this week that I realized the popular-fic-turned-serial-numbers-filed-off-published-novel "Manacled" is pronounced "man-ah-kuld" and not "mank-eld".

For quite awhile I thought the fic was titled "Mancled" and that "mancled" was a British slang my dumb American ass didn't know lmao

Been watching Columbo with my family on tubi... haven't told them, or anyone else, about my Big Gay Columbo headcanon-- that the reason 'Mrs. Columbo' never has a first name and we never see photographs of her, just her relatives, is that Columbo can't say he goes home at night to some guy named Steve, or talk about his common-law husband.

I can't believe I used to have a fandom crush on Krieger from Archer. I mean, Pam was right there in all her hot Mid Western farm-goddess awesomeness also being a superspy too.

I wish I could find a streaming service with the movie "The Student Prince" on it. You know the one with Mario Lanza's voice dubbed over the lead actor's voice. I have my reasons, okay.

I have recently discovered the K-pop group Stray Kids. I like them a lot, but my social media is saturated with them and I now kind of feel sorry for them. I know this is their job and they love what they do, but it must be exhausting to be “on” all the time or to try to set boundaries, only for fans to call you ungrateful, or for fans to analyze every little thing you do. “Price of fame” and all that I guess.

I recently deleted my AO3 account. I deleted all works instead of orphaning them. I'm extremely sad about it, but it needed to be done.

Sorry that I didn't have the courage to orphan my fics. I know it's frowned up.

Uhh...Secret OP here and I did not reply that first response. I honestly didn't want to reply but fuck that anti-AO3 anon for their dumbass response.

I needed to delete my fics because of personal reasons. Years ago, I'd been channeling a lot of personal things via fanfic writing, and this year I reached a point where it felt really risky and not-OK to have my personal stuff posted online. I know most people wouldn't be able to garner any sort of insight into my personal life from poorly written fics I wrote years ago, but I just...cannot think of having things I wrote from very deep personal pains and confusion be out in some public place.

I miss Ship Manifestos.

'Here is why my ship makes sense or is fun to ship' was so much more fun and actually got me to consider ships I otherwise never thought about, than the current climate of 'my ship is going to be canon and if you don't agree with me you're a deluded idiot' or worse accusing those of don't agree with being -ist in some manner.

I'd love to read modern ship manifestos. I've found one posted on Dreamwidth about a Nintendo game? but I dunno why people don't do them as much in general anymore. I kinda wanted to make a Neocities to host one, but I dunno how many people use that site for those.

I know we all like to think we're a little superhero in the making, that there is a hero inside us all, powering through adversity, but I think I'm more like 80s Skeletor. I'm not powering through anything, as soon as I can see I'm beat I'm all "Until next time He-Man" and outta there.

Somehow I thought 9-1-1 and Brooklyn Nine-Nine were the same show. Now that I know better, I finally understand a lot of the secrets that have been posted the last year or two.

I really, really, really do not like the new English VA for Cologne on the Ranma remake. She puts very little personality into the voice.
