I hadn't really thought about it this way, but I guess I kind of agree. I definitely agree that the plot of 9 is a hot mess, obviously, and while there's a lot I like about the plot of 8, it has plenty of weak points (and also just doesn't really gel with 7 at all). 7 is probably the least overtly flawed, plot-wise, but it's extremely safe and has a bit too much recycled-plot-points flavor to it, IMO.

I wouldn't necessarily say I dislike the broad plot strokes of 7 and 8, but what sells them for me is definitely the characters. Rey, Fin, Poe, and Kylo were all characters I clicked with and became interested in quite quickly (Kylo took a bit longer, and most of what I felt for him was contempt, but that was all by design and it really worked for me.)
