that first one by Howard Pyle certainly *feels* like it should be my Robin Hood. I wish my memory wasn't so shit and that I could remember the author and cover.

It looks like the full-length audiobook is on YouTube, you could listen to some of it and see if anything seems familiar. I don't know if that would work for you or not, but hope you find your book. It's kind of amazing when you actually find a book you remember from your childhood that you hadn't seen since then.
