I hope you're feeling some kind of relief or benefit, OP, in addition to extremely sad. It's your work and sometimes that's what you need to do for your own sake.

I know some people have turned orphaning vs deleting into a weird moral thing, like deleting your work is some sort of sin or rudeness.

I think more rational people are just sad to lose fics they enjoyed or haven't had the chance to read yet. Orphaning is a nice option to let those be accessible, without being connected to an author, but that doesn't necessarily achieve what the author needs or wants. And yeah, it can be sad, but that's part of giving creators freedom and, you know, the general impermanence of life.
