I recently deleted my AO3 account. I deleted all works instead of orphaning them. I'm extremely sad about it, but it needed to be done.

Sorry that I didn't have the courage to orphan my fics. I know it's frowned upon.

because AO3 has been a cancer on modern fandom, reducing it to a series of drabbles and kudoses, devoid of all substance and replaced with "being nice" instead

I hope you're feeling some kind of relief or benefit, OP, in addition to extremely sad. It's your work and sometimes that's what you need to do for your own sake.

I know some people have turned orphaning vs deleting into a weird moral thing, like deleting your work is some sort of sin or rudeness.

I think more rational people are just sad to lose fics they enjoyed or haven't had the chance to read yet. Orphaning is a nice option to let those be accessible, without being connected to an author, but that doesn't necessarily achieve what the author needs or wants. And yeah, it can be sad, but that's part of giving creators freedom and, you know, the general impermanence of life.

I did the same thing a couple of years ago.

I sometimes feel sad about it too, mostly for the sheer number of lost words (it was a decade of fic, so 5-6 million words' worth) and proof that I existed and created something real and tangible.

But I left the account open with my various contact info in the bio, in case anyone wanted to check in or ask for a backup copy of something, and I can safely say my work does not seem to be missed, so...

Maybe that makes me sadder than getting rid of it in the first place.

As a reader/fan I'd be incredibly sad, but as a creator with anxiety I get it. Sometimes you just need a complete delete to be able to move on.

If I loved your fics as a reader I'd be sad, but it's ultimately your choice OP. I've deleted works instead of orphaning them before because I just did not want them online any more at all, the main copy on my PC is also gone, so extra done.

Sometimes it's what feels best.

I did the same thing a couple years back, for a number of reason.

I would never ever orphan and I hate when someone suggests it. The works are mine and I want them gone. Making them no longer mine and accessible to everyone is the exact *opposite* of what I want.

I have recently discovered the K-pop group Stray Kids. I like them a lot, but my social media is saturated with them and I now kind of feel sorry for them. I know this is their job and they love what they do, but it must be exhausting to be “on” all the time or to try to set boundaries, only for fans to call you ungrateful, or for fans to analyze every little thing you do. “Price of fame” and all that I guess.

I can't help but to roll my eyes when I see streamer things like, "remind your streamer to eat and drink water!" and stuff like that. It reminds me a little of "adulting" and just how stupid and juvenile I find that whole concept.

I think this weirds me out for a different reason entirely. It's one thing to use those terms or framing devices to care for yourself, but it's another thing to encourage it as part of the relationship between streamers and their viewers. That makes me a bit uncomfortable, on both sides of the equation.

(Personally speaking, I do sometimes struggle at consistently eating and drinking and going for a walk, etc. when I'm really focused on work or hobbies. And there are plenty of adult responsibilities I have to sort of bully myself into. So I don't think I have a lot of space to criticize, even if I don't love the term "adulting" itself.)

Been watching Columbo with my family on tubi... haven't told them, or anyone else, about my Big Gay Columbo headcanon-- that the reason 'Mrs. Columbo' never has a first name and we never see photographs of her, just her relatives, is that Columbo can't say he goes home at night to some guy named Steve, or talk about his common-law husband.

I'm not a HP fanfic reader, so it wasn't until this week that I realized the popular-fic-turned-serial-numbers-filed-off-published-novel "Manacled" is pronounced "man-ah-kuld" and not "mank-eld".

For quite awhile I thought the fic was titled "Mancled" and that "mancled" was a British slang my dumb American ass didn't know lmao

I kinda feel bad for this poster.
Did she miss the point of Disco Elysium? Most Likely!

But literally all she said was: she wants a different game with the same (great) system design and writing quality.

Who hasn't played a game they were impressed by production-wise, but didn't care for personally? Have people never gone "wow, I wish this same type of high quality production were present in a different game or genre that I'd enjoy more?"

People should have laughed at it and moved on, not made her the poster child and/or strawman for being anti cozy-as-a-genre years and years later.
