Favourite bits of slang

Any bits of slang that are dated/regional/obscure that you wish were more widely used?

Any new slang that you learned recently?

Any fun bits of slang that you just especially enjoy?

Idk if it is really considered 'slang' but since moving south I have really enjoyed adding "y'all" into my regular vocabulary. It's such a handy non-gendered term for any number of people!

Yes! A flexible plural form of "you" is so useful. I wish English had some less culturally-marked options. People definitely look at me oddly if I try to use "y'all" or "youse".

When I was a kid I was obsessed with fake curse words like 'dagnabbit' and 'tarnation'. I still love using them around kids.

I think I learned "tarnation" as a child from a book on tall tales from the American West and I definitely tried to find ways of using it for a while.

There are quite a lot of words in the venerable Dictionary of the Vulgar tongue that deserve resurrecting, like "knickknackatory" (toy shop), "cacatorium" (bathroom), or "bellytimber" (hearty meat-and-potatoes-type food, though it could be vegetarian as long as it's nice and filling).

Oooh, those are great words! I miss following lexicographer Susie Dent on Twitter. She always had wonderful forgotten gems.

"Eyup our kid!"

A very useful all-purpose greeting.

Ah, a good one, but not one I know that well...Generally northern and affectionate, yeah?

That's right! Also its close cousin, "Eyup orright?" Much in little.
