What headcanons do you have for your favorite characters?

Dean Winchester secretly loves musicals.
BONUS: Castiel knows that and encourage Jack to ask Dean to watch Disney movies together for their movie night. Dean ends up loving the movies the most.

I rememberer him making a reference to Hamilton and other musicals in canon, but not expressing any particular interest nor love for them apart from his general interest in pop culture.

Bruce Banner loves the film "Miller's Crossing" by the Coen brothers. (Based entirely on one short line from one MCU film.)

There are a lot of female Ricks but we never see them because none of them wanted to join Citadel.

Need advice! Found some kittens on a walk!

[personal profile] kaijinscendre 2025-11-01 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Obligatory photos: https://imgur.com/a/XzQg02g

So, I was on a walk this morning and found four kittens. I think they were dumped because they are friendly and flea free. I did wait around for mom but none showed up. They can eat solid food, groom themselves, and at least one used the litter box I set up. The vet and animal control are closed.

How much should I be feeding them and how often? One is kind of runty and not as quick to eat, should I feed it separate? Should they be okay in a 5x5 half bath (I removed everything)? I can let them out a few times supervised but don't want them free roaming. Should I get some toys? They are spending all their time in the carrier except for when I fed them.

Favourite bits of slang

[personal profile] iff_and_xor 2025-11-01 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)

Any bits of slang that are dated/regional/obscure that you wish were more widely used?

Any new slang that you learned recently?

Any fun bits of slang that you just especially enjoy?

Idk if it is really considered 'slang' but since moving south I have really enjoyed adding "y'all" into my regular vocabulary. It's such a handy non-gendered term for any number of people!

When I was a kid I was obsessed with fake curse words like 'dagnabbit' and 'tarnation'. I still love using them around kids.

There are quite a lot of words in the venerable Dictionary of the Vulgar tongue that deserve resurrecting, like "knickknackatory" (toy shop), "cacatorium" (bathroom), or "bellytimber" (hearty meat-and-potatoes-type food, though it could be vegetarian as long as it's nice and filling).

Who do you think is the most unique, or "non generic," middle aged white male character?

Kinda inspired by 7.

Well, I'd argue that Tolkien's men tend to have traits that would be very outside the stereotypical masculine ideal these days.

They are emotional, and in fact softness, kindness, compassion are valued traits in middle earth. Faramir is the ideal, not his brother who is a bit more of the stereotype. And one of the traits that makes it clear Aragorn is royalty is his healing abilities.

Aaron Hotchner from Criminal Minds. By outward appearance, middle aged white male g-man, but he's easily one of the most sensitive, intuitive male characters I've seen in mainstream media, ever. The whole cast is excellently written in terms of characterization (the earlier seasons, at least) and work together really well as a team with Found Family elements. Hotch is a great example of this - a lot of traits people associate with alpha male including the physicality, confident leadership, etc. But at the same time, he's not afraid to be the team's emotional center, and they clearly look to him for that quality as well.

Hannibal Lecter (Hannibal), maybe.

On cruelty and kindness

(Anonymous) 2025-11-02 08:59 am (UTC)(link)
What is your personal beliefs on the theory that an individual is likely to be meaner/more cruel to someone close to them (immediate family member, significant other, close friend)?
The deeper element of this theory is that we as individuals know that someone close to us will be more willing to tolerate our worse/worst traits so we can often act out our less desirable impulses/actions onto the person who loves us most. And obviously, vice versa, we are more willing to overlook someone's shitty behaviors toward us because we have strong tender feelings toward the person.

Do you think you give out the same level of unkindness/cruelty to all people? Or do you reserve it for people you know love you? Or do you disagree with this theory all together?

I ask because I'm doing some mental health work and this is one of things where I feel extremely confused. I'll go into more detail in a reply thread. It might be lengthy.
