I did the same thing a couple of years ago.

I sometimes feel sad about it too, mostly for the sheer number of lost words (it was a decade of fic, so 5-6 million words' worth) and proof that I existed and created something real and tangible.

But I left the account open with my various contact info in the bio, in case anyone wanted to check in or ask for a backup copy of something, and I can safely say my work does not seem to be missed, so...

Maybe that makes me sadder than getting rid of it in the first place.

Most people who miss it probably have no idea you in particular wrote it and thus won't be able to see your contact info. I rarely remember the authors or even titles of fic. I remember that one particular scene, or the plot line, and when I go to find it again I can't.

Yeah, I've had fics deleted that are in my bookmarks and even if I know what it is, I'm not going to remember the author's name. I am lucky if I remember titles.

Yeah, there may be a fic there that I'm missing horribly. But if all I have is a bookmark that says "work deleted", I will never even know who to ask.

+1 to the previous commenter, and also: Some readers, even if they found your info, would worry that it's pushy/entitled to ask for copies of your old fic. They don't know why you deleted it, what mental-health considerations might have been involved, and they don't want to risk reopening old wounds.

Other readers save our own backup copies of anything we liked enough to reread. So if the original gets deleted, we're already covered.
