You know, I go back and forth on this. On the one hand, I think she was shitty to him and the show sort of acknowledges this, but on the other hand, I've been in her situation and sometimes you need to treat someone like crap because they just don't get that you don't want to be in a romantic relationship anymore.

Yeah, but it's not his fault she wasn't direct. She never told him "Don't wait up, the Doctor is the one for me!"

Well, in "Parting of the Ways" she did tell Mickey that there was nothing left for her on Earth. And yet in "The Christmas Invasion" he was there, trailing her again.

Yeah, but at the same time I feel like he should've gotten it sometime around Boomtown....I don't know, like I said, I've been in that situation and it's just hard. You want to say "This is never going to happen" but it's hard to actually say it since you still want to be friends. So it made sense to me that Rose mostly resorted to ignoring him when things to weird, since I've done that. I'm not saying it's a good tactic, but when you're 19 it looks like the best option.

Been there as well, bought the postcard and the t-shirt and yes, I totally sympathised with both Rose and Mickey in that situation. I think at one point or another, I've been both of them.

Yeah...but Rose doesn't just treat him like crap so he'll get that she doesn't want the relationship anymore. She can't make up her mind. At the beginning of 'New Earth' she gives him a long kiss goodbye, and then when he says 'Love you' she walks away without saying anything back: she doesn't love him back, and that's not her fault at all, but she doesn't want the relationship to end because he's her safety net or something. I don't know exactly what her motivation is, but...she doesn't ever make up her mind to end the relationship with Mickey, and that bothers me a lot.

If you don't love someone anymore/never did love them, and you know that you're not going to fall (back) in love with them...don't keep giving them reasons to hang on to the relationship, y'know? It's possible to break up with someone, and still be friends with them, and not expect them to continue on being in love with you when you don't reciprocate the feelings.

...I don't even know if this comment is coherent. :/ And it's entirely possible that I'm reading way too much into this. But, y'know, that's my view on the matter.

Plus, I think Mickey seemed to have a pretty good sense that he was second-best to the Doctor by the time Aliens of London/World War III rolled around. It's not like Rose expressly said "WAIT FOR ME." She could have been more direct about it, but, um, I'm pretty sure Mickey got the hint fairly early on.

And the Doctor extended him a TARDIS invitation in World War III - which turned down and then made the Doctor lie about. If he doesn't want to join Rose on her life, why should Rose be the one in the bad for not wanting to go back to her old one?
